How to Apply: Follow the instructions + steps below for a successful application.

STEP 1: make sure you are eligible to apply!

LawWithoutWalls is now open to any eligible applicants currently enrolled in OR recent grads of a law or business program!

However, before you apply, check to see if your school is a current participating school in LWOW. If so, your school may have their own internal process/requirements for LWOW applications.

For non-Miami Law students, if accepted to LWOW, there will be an administration fee for participation in LawWithoutWalls Sprint 2024 of $800USD (not including costs to travel) payable to the University of Miami School of Law upon acceptance. MiamiLaw students, please email lawwithoutwalls@lwow.org for more information on fees and costs covered.

STEP 2: get to know LWOW.

Before applying to LWOW, read all the information available about LWOW on our website and also review the FAQ (frequently asked questions). You can also click here to watch a 10 minute pre-recorded presentation.

This year we are offering one in-person program—The LWOW Sprint—to be held over 3 full days, 15—17 March in Madrid, Spain hosted by IE University School of Law at their IE Tower campus.

STEP 3: create your Interview Video (no more than 3 minutes in length/link to examples below).

Create an Interview Video. The Interview Video is a 2 to 3 minutes video (created via phone, tablet, computer, camera, or animated tools that should demonstrate to LWOW how you stand out from other applicants by answering the following questions very succinctly, but also with creativity! Be an original—be sure to include real examples of problem solving, leadership, and creativity in your answers, and importantly, have fun showing us who you are and what your values are.

INTERVIEW VIDEO QUESTIONS: Please answer all of the following questions.

  1. What is your definition of a change-maker and describe an instance when you might have served as a change-maker?

  2. Tell us about what aspect of law or the legal industry that you find most fascinating?

  3. Tell us an example of the hardest thing that you have done, professionally or academically?

  4. In 15 seconds or less, what three skills would you bring to LawWithoutWalls and what three skills you hope to gain from LawWithoutWalls?

INTERVIEW VIDEO REQUIREMENTS: Please note creativity does not necessarily mean you need to have any specialized video editing skills, but we do have requirements for the Interview Video:

  1. The applicant should narrate and star in the video. We prefer to see you (not your avatar!) and hear you so also please make sure your video is clear and sound is audible.

  2. If you are creating a video using a phone or tablet, please record in LANDSCAPE mode! (IMPORTANT: This means your screen should be held horizontally, e.g, In this direction  — . NOT this way |. )

  3. Interview Videos may be a mix of video clips, still photos, and animated media; however, it must be one cohesive video file.

  4. Create an URL to your Interview Video (we suggest uploading your Interview Video to a video hosting platform e.g., Vimeo or YouTube) and submit the URL in your application form (be sure to test the video before submitting your application).

  5. IMPORTANT: Videos cannot exceed over 3 minutes.

STEP 4: fill out the online application form and apply!

A. Complete the online application form here. It asks for information typically available on a CV, contact information, a link to your Interview Video, LinkedIn profile, and a short response (500 words or less) to a substantive question of your choice.

B. Get a recommendation/have a recommendor fill out this form here. Ask a current or past academic or professional supervisor (e.g., a professor who supervises the student’s work as a research assistant, a thesis supervisor, a work manager, recent boss, etc.) to complete the applicant recommendation on your behalf (copy and forward the link of the recommendation form to recommender). Students should inform the supervisor of their candidacy for LWOW and send the link for completion.

Your application to LWOW will not be considered unless both the applicant recommendation and the online application are received and complete.

INTERVIEWS

We often accept students based on their application and Interview Video. However, in some instances, we ask that a student interview with us virtually, and some schools will conduct personal interviews.

SPRINT 2024 APPLICATION DEADLINES

LWOW 2024 applications open 13 September 2023. Final submission date for LWOW Application is 10 November 2023. However, you may be affiliated with a school with an earlier (or later) application deadline. Please check with your school for specific information. Students applying independently from schools must meet the deadline of 10 November 2023. We will aim to notify all applicants of acceptances by 1 December 2023.
