Casey Unrein

Student, IE Business School

Casey Unrein is in the last two terms of his MBA studies at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain. At IE, he has focused on entrepreneurship, working with various startup projects including the innovative tripod for mobile devices Buddygripper.com and the Spanish health education initiative Meduba.com. In 2013, Casey will join the Venture Lab, IE's start-up accelerator. As a member of the four person YaaxWoolis.com team, Casey will be challenging concepts of sustainability through the application of a bamboo composite to bicycles and other modes of transportation.

Prior to coming to IE, Casey worked as a court-appointed professional fiduciary manager, a small business consultant, and controller for a non-profit. In many cases his work involved navigating the regulatory environments and setting the groundwork for long-term management. He is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated with a BA in Economics & Education from Occidental College.

Casey grew up across the western United States, living in Alaska, Utah, Idaho, California and Washington. In 2006, he spent a semester in South America, where he developed fluency in Spanish as a second language.  He returned to South America in 2010, spending a year in northern Peru with the microfinance website Kiva.org and the non-profit Supporting Kids In Peru. Now, at IE Business School in Spain, Casey enjoys the dynamics of transitioning between Spanish and English on a regular basis.
