Technology

The best technologies are the ones that disappear, allowing the user to share ideas with others in efficient and effective ways. LawWithoutWalls is all about connection, communication, and collaboration despite distance.  Therefore, participants are provided a toolbox of apps that enable them to connect with others around the world and together imagine the future of legal education and practice.

The centerpiece of this toolbox is Adobe Connect, the primary virtual space for LawWithoutWalls.  Without flying around the world or commuting to campus, Adobe Connect allows participants to see and hear each other in real time while chatting and sharing files like PowerPoint presentations and videos. Students meet every week on Adobe Connect, either to build their real-world skills or to explore with Thought Leaders the current issues legal professionals and educators are facing today and the innovations that are developing. Every session is recorded so it can reviewed by participants at any time.  And all of this from within a web browser on a Mac or PC (without having to download any special software), allowing participation from literally anywhere one chooses to be.

Students are teamed together to idenitfy a discrete problem in legal education or practice, and utilize Skype video conferencing to connect with their Academic Mentors, Practitioner Mentors, and members of the Subject Expert and Entrepreneur Advisory Boards to gain valuable insight into the development of their Projects of Worth.

Students are provided with a virtual library of articles relating to their topics for easy access and sharing on the cloud. Students take ownership and further develop this virtual library throughout the semester.

As LawWithoutWalls grows and expands, and in the spirit of the innovation it seeks, more and newer technologies will continue to be embraced to deepen the dialogue and enhance the learning experience.
