Selvyn Seidel

Selvyn Seidel is a partner at Latham & Watkins’ New York office and the Founding Advisory Board Member of LawWithoutWalls.  His practice deals mostly with international practice and litigation.  For a number of years, he was Chairman of the Latham & Watkins International Practice Group, which has responsibility for the overall international practice of Latham & Watkins.  He was also Chairman of the International Litigation and Arbitration Group. Selvyn has represented a number of well-known clients in a variety of significant international and national matters.

Selvyn is the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Burford Advisors LLC and its subsidiary Burford Litigation Funding.  The entities consist of diverse, experienced professionals, and distinguished business and finance individuals, advising on an integrated and comprehensive basis.  In the litigation finance industry, Burford Litigation Funding and members of Burford Advisors LLC are independent expert consultants to Claimants, Funders, insurance entities, and law firms.  Previously, Selvyn was an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York University School of Law, where he taught courses in federal and international practice and litigation from 1974 to 1984.  He is currently an Alumnus Lecturer at Linacre College, Oxford University. A member of the New York City Bar Association, Selvyn is, and has been, actively involved in the International Law, Federal Courts, Civil Courts and Grievance Committees.  He is also a member of the American Bar Association's International Practice Section and Litigation Committee, and a member of the International Bar Association.  He has lectured before the Practicing Law Institute and Continuing Education of the Bar and his writing includes publications relating to international matters.

Selvyn graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in economics.  He earned his J.D. from the University of California Berkeley, Boalt Hall school of Law, where he was a member of the California Law Review.  He also has a Diploma in Law from the University of Oxford’s Linacre College.
