Jon Harman

Learning Design & Media Director, The College of Law, UK

Jon Harman specialises in learning design and the application of media and technology in learning for The College of Law in the UK. He leads a multi-disciplinary team of instructional designers, media producers, interactive web/app developers, learning technologists and publishing experts. His work focuses on developing innovative and practical approaches to enhance learning through technology, media and learning design. This is all achieved by looking through multiple spectrums of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, interaction design, media production, narrative storytelling and sheer tech geekery. Jon’s working days are a beautiful mix of complexity, fun, problem solving and magic.

Jon joined the College of Law after an initial career in film and television; he has produced documentaries, a feature film and live concerts for Disney to name a few of his projects. In 2005 he helped The College of Law pioneer the wide use of online learning materials in blended instruction by removing lectures from the programmes and replacing with online tutorials and facilitated face to face workshops, “flipping the classroom” before it was fashionable.

Jon received his BA (Hons) Professional Broadcasting from Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication, one of the world’s leading educational establishments in innovative digital media and design. He studied “Connectivism and Connective Knowledge” on the first MOOC in 2008 with many of the world’s leading educational theorists. He is currently studying his MA in Online Learning and Distance Education with the Open University.
