Miwa is currently enrolled in a dual-degree graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is working on both an MBA from the Wharton School and a Masters in International Studies with a concentration in Japanese from the Lauder Institute. Long-interested in entrepreneurship, Miwa co-authored a thesis on women entrepreneurs across four countries: Egypt, Georgia, Spain, and Japan. She is an Executive Director of the Wharton Graduation Association and was selected in 2012 as an Emerging Leader by the U.S.-Japan Council. Miwa was also nominated as an Omnicom Fellow and is actively involved as a teaching assistant for several Wharton Communications Program courses. After graduation, Miwa will join the New York office of the management consultancy A.T. Kearney.
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Miwa moved to Tokyo. There she enjoyed a career at NHK World as a weather anchor, radio newsreader and program director. While in Tokyo she also co-founded Tokyo Professionals Management Group, a business networking organization for Japan-based professionals.
This year, Miwa will lead two groups from her university on trips to Japan for business and cultural immersion including a group of 150 MBA students and a class studying Japan’s supply chain. She also loves travel, karaoke, and afternoon tea.
